Baby boomers make up 42 percent of those renting storage units, while 50 percent of Gen Zers plan to rent one soon. The main reasons for using storage units include not enough space at home, moving, downsizing, home renovation, and storing items for business purposes. Despite the high demand for storage units with many facilities operating at full capacity, new locations are continuously being built to meet the growing demand. Opening a storage unit business in these states seems to be a profitable venture with the industry’s increasing popularity.
