Utah Utes Suffer Sixth Straight Loss, Fall 49-24 to Colorado
Boulder, CO – The Utah Utes endured their sixth consecutive defeat on Saturday, marking the longest losing streak of head coach Kyle Whittingham’s tenure after a disappointing 49-24 loss against Colorado. The Utes have struggled significantly, winning only one conference game this season, and are in dire need of victories in their final two matches against Iowa State and UCF to achieve bowl eligibility.
Utah’s performance showcased a persistent offensive struggle, highlighted by a mere 31 rushing yards and inconsistent quarterback play from Isaac Wilson, who battled illness leading up to the game. Despite a commendable defensive start that saw linebacker Lander Barton intercept Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, the Utes couldn’t capitalize on multiple opportunities, failing to score touchdowns despite favorable field position.
As the game progressed, Colorado’s prolific offense began to wear down Utah’s defense, which had previously held its ground effectively. While the Utes momentarily sparked with touchdowns from Wilson, including a 40-yard pass to Dorian Singer, their efforts were marred by turnovers and a lack of defensive depth. The Buffaloes capitalized on this fatigue, scoring 28 points in the second half, including a defining 76-yard punt return touchdown.
Head Coach Kyle Whittingham expressed frustration with his team’s efficiency, pointing to the need for better offensive execution and special teams play, both of which have hindered their season. The Utes struggled to build momentum when it mattered most, and with critical challenges ahead, the path to bowl eligibility appears increasingly narrow. The team will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next games.
