Shooting at Salt Lake City Protest: Three Arrested Following Incident

Salt Lake City police have taken three individuals into custody following a shooting during the “No Kings” march downtown on Saturday. The incident resulted in one man suffering a critical gunshot wound, collapsing on State Street near the Liberty SKY apartment complex. Emergency responders quickly attended to the victim, who was subsequently taken to a hospital under guard.

Police Chief Brian Redd reported that police are investigating the shooting, which they believe involved four individuals, including the wounded man. The shooting occurred around 7:56 p.m., prompting chaos as attendees fled, with eyewitnesses describing sounds of gunfire amidst the protest. Many were startled at the sight of the victim, who was seen receiving medical assistance near protest signs.

The march, aimed against President Trump’s immigration policies, had seen an estimated 10,000 participants, previously commencing peacefully in Pioneer Park. Many speakers highlighted issues of nonviolence and solidarity for various oppressed groups. Leaders have condemned political violence in light of recent events nationwide, with the Salt Lake City Police Department focusing on maintaining safety at protests.
