Forty Utah Republican volunteers traveled by bus to Arizona to support the Trump campaign as part of a door-knocking effort in the swing state. The volunteers, including a 67-year-old real estate broker, Niels Fugal, expressed enthusiasm and dedication to the cause, citing the importance of the upcoming election. The Utah GOP organized the trip, covering transportation and lodging costs for the volunteers and providing training in collaboration with Turning Point USA.
Utah Republican state party chairman Rob Axson highlighted the excitement among Utahns to participate in the canvassing event. The volunteers engaged with voters in Arizona, appealing to themes such as strong family values, economic opportunity, safety, and world peace, particularly targeting the Latter-day Saint community in the state. Both Trump and Harris campaigns are actively courting these voters.
Fugal, along with other volunteers, found the experience rewarding and fulfilling, despite challenges such as extreme weather conditions and long hours of door knocking. The volunteers received training from Turning Point USA and closely collaborated with Nevada and Arizona GOP counterparts. While in Phoenix, the volunteers also enjoyed camaraderie and cultural exchange, with individuals of various ages and backgrounds participating in the effort.
Axson emphasized the importance of focusing on Republican turnout in Utah while also assisting in neighboring critical states like Arizona and Nevada. The volunteers plan to continue their canvassing efforts and participate in future events to support the Republican cause. As they head back to Utah, they remain optimistic and committed to their mission, undeterred by the long bus ride home, and united in their support for the Trump campaign.
