Tragic Discovery at Lake Powell: Man Found Dead on Boat
LAKE POWELL, Utah — A somber incident unfolded Saturday morning as 77-year-old Bruce Wayne Brinkley was discovered deceased aboard a boat anchored in a cove near Bullfrog Marina. Witnesses spotted the boat around 10:20 a.m. and alerted park rangers at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, leading to the involvement of the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities confirmed that Brinkley was the only individual present on the vessel.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death remains ongoing, although preliminary findings indicated no signs of foul play, suicide, or accidental factors. Brinkley, a resident of Globe, Arizona, was found dead under unclear conditions, prompting condolences from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office extended to his family.
In light of this tragic occurrence, officials are urging residents, particularly older individuals, to avoid recreating alone. Wade Mathews from the sheriff’s office emphasized the importance of the buddy system and being prepared with sufficient hydration and protective measures against the elements. They also recommend informing someone about travel plans and considering a Utah Search and Rescue Assistance Card for added safety.
