Utah’s Smith Snowden Named to Chuck Bednarik Award Watchlist
SALT LAKE CITY — In a significant recognition for his performance, Utah junior cornerback Smith Snowden has been named to the prestigious Chuck Bednarik Award Watchlist, as announced by the Maxwell Football Club on Monday. The award honors the Defensive Player of the Year and will celebrate its 31st presentation in 2025.
Snowden made a noteworthy impact during the 2024 season, participating in all 12 games and earning starting roles in 11 of them as a nickel back. He recorded a total of 48 tackles, showcasing his consistency with a remarkable five-game streak of at least five tackles. Additionally, he defended 10 passes, contributing two interceptions and eight pass break-ups, along with forcing one fumble.
Hailing from Lehi, Utah, Snowden also took on kick return responsibilities in the latter portion of the season. Over the last four games, he returned seven kickoffs for a solid 187 yards, highlighted by an impressive three returns for 83 yards against rivals BYU.
The selection committee for the Bednarik Award will reveal semifinalists on November 11, with three finalists announced on November 25. The award will culminate with the announcement of the winner during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show, set for December 11.
In addition to the Bednarik recognition, Snowden has also been acknowledged on the Paul Hornung Award Watchlist, further emphasizing his talent and contributions to the Utes’ defensive lineup as the 2025 season approaches.
