St. George Police Arrest Man with Meth Concealed in Shrimp

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Local law enforcement arrested 48-year-old Jose Manuel Reyes Ruiz on August 2 after discovering nearly 2 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in containers of raw shrimp inside his vehicle. The incident occurred around 7 PM when a St. George Police officer pulled over Ruiz for illegally tinted windows, which measured only 2%, significantly below the legal limit of 35%.

While the officer was writing a citation, a K-9 unit arrived and performed an exterior sniff of the vehicle, yielding a positive alert for narcotics. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found a cooler on the backseat containing large bags of raw shrimp. Upon inspection, two plastic-wrapped bundles of meth were discovered within the shrimp, weighing approximately 2 pounds in total.

Ruiz is now facing multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute, child endangerment, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently being held without bail as the case proceeds through the legal system. The police department is committed to tackling drug-related crime in the community.
