Jaren Kump Recognized on Rimington Trophy Preseason Watch List
As the Utah Utes gear up for the 2025 college football season, starting center Jaren Kump has gained noteworthy recognition in the sport, being named to the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy. This prestigious award is given annually to the top center in college football, highlighting Kump’s talent and contributions to the Utes’ formidable offensive line.
Kump, a redshirt senior from Riverton, Utah, is the third Ute offensive lineman nominated for a major honor this season, joining Outland Trophy contenders Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu. Alongside Kump, running back Wayshawn Parker has made the Doak Walker Award watch list, while starting quarterback Devon Dampier is being considered for the Davey O’Brien Award.
Before stepping into the center position, Kump had experience playing at tackle and guard, and he has showcased his skills in 47 games over five seasons. He has started 17 games at center, contributing to a strong Utah offensive line. Notably, Kump earned academic All-Big 12 honors in the previous campaign, underlining his performance both on the field and in the classroom.
Kump is the first Utes center to be recognized on the Rimington Trophy watch list since Nick Ford was nominated in 2020 and 2021. The award winner will be selected based on votes from distinguished organizations, including the Walter Camp Foundation and the Football Writers Association of America. The center receiving the most first-team votes will be crowned the winner. As the season looms, Kump’s recognition highlights the potential of an exciting year for the Utes.
