Aliki Vimahi: Key Player for Utah’s Defense in 2025
SALT LAKE CITY – As the Utah Utes gear up for a promising 2025 season, the spotlight is not only on the offensive line but also on the defensive contributions of Aliki Vimahi, who is making waves on the KSL Sports Zone Hans & Scotty G. 60 in 60 watchlist.
Head coach Kyle Whittingham highlighted Vimahi’s crucial role within the team, stating, “He will be one of our primary defensive tackles, and we’re looking forward to what he’ll bring to the table this fall.” Although injuries hampered his performance last season—limiting him to just four games—Vimahi managed to register seven tackles, two tackles for loss, and two pass breakups.
A distinguished athlete, Vimahi earned two-time All-Hawai’i Division I selection honors while at Kahuku High School. Coming to Utah in 2017, he didn’t begin his collegiate career until 2021. Over the course of his time at Utah, he has appeared in 40 games, racking up an impressive 47 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and five defended passes.
In his debut season, Vimahi played ten games, accumulating 12 tackles and one QB hurry. His resilience shone through in 2022 as he made nine starts, contributing significantly to the Utes’ defensive lineup. In 2023, he continued to solidify his position, playing 12 games and finishing with 1.5 sacks.
The 60 in 60 initiative showcases college football talent in Utah, and expect Vimahi to play a pivotal role in the Utes’ quest for success this upcoming season. Stay tuned for more coverage and updates as the football season unfolds.
