Foot of Man Missing for Nearly 30 Years Discovered by Lake in Utah

Sole Closure: Missing Fisherman’s Remains Identified After Nearly Three Decades

In a poignant revelation, DNA testing confirmed that a human foot discovered at Fish Lake, Utah, belongs to David White, a fisherman who vanished in September 1997. The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that the remains were identified with 99.9994% certainty.

White’s disappearance became one of Utah’s longest cold cases, captivating the community as family and friends searched for answers for nearly 28 years. Last seen planning a fishing trip alone, White’s boat was found adrift, alongside his shoe and hat, but extensive searches at the time yielded no further clues.

The foot was found on May 16 when a man walking his dog stumbled upon a hiking boot that contained the skeletal remains. Investigators traced the boot’s manufacture to 1996, reinforcing its connection to White’s case. Stefanie Bennett, White’s daughter, expressed gratitude towards the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and the individual who found the remains, remarking on the closure it brings.

Despite the identification, the circumstances surrounding White’s death remain officially undetermined, with no foul play suspected. Authorities have closed the missing person investigation, marking the end of a long and painful chapter for the family.
