Two Arrested for Speeding on I-15 in Utah County
LEHI, Utah — The Utah Highway Patrol was kept busy Saturday night on I-15 as two separate incidents of extreme speeding led to arrests just half an hour apart.
The first incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. when a motorcyclist was clocked at 81 mph near Lehi. As a trooper pursued the rider, another vehicle sped by at 123 mph, prompting the trooper to activate lights. The driver of the speeding vehicle, a 24-year-old man from Lindon, attempted to evade by switching lanes and exiting the freeway. He later admitted to trying to keep up with the motorcyclist, expressing confusion about his actions. He was arrested on charges including exhibition driving and reckless driving.
In a second event, just 25 minutes later, a trooper observed a Volkswagen Golf and a Honda Civic racing each other. The Volkswagen reached speeds of 114 mph, while the Civic managed 105 mph before being pulled over. The 26-year-old Manti resident driving the Volkswagen acknowledged the foolishness of their actions. He too was booked for reckless driving and exceeding speeds of 100 mph.
Both incidents underscore the dangers of excessive speeding and reckless driving on Utah roads.
