Utah State Basketball Announces New Coaching Additions

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men’s basketball head coach Jerrod Calhoun has made two significant hires, bringing back Johnny Hill as an assistant coach and Curran Walsh as the director of player personnel and analytics. Both are familiar faces, with Hill having previously served under Danny Sprinkle in the 2023-24 season and Walsh under Craig Smith from 2020-21.

Hill returns after a successful stint at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), playing a crucial role in defensive strategies and player development. He helped UIC to its first winning season in five years, with a record of 17-14. Notably, during his time with the Aggies, Hill contributed to a remarkable 28-7 season, leading the team to its first Mountain West Conference title.

"Johnny is an excellent recruiter and has a sharp defensive mind," Calhoun stated. "His enthusiasm and dedication make him a valuable asset to our program moving forward."

Walsh rejoins Utah State from Denver, where he assisted in player development, most notably working with Summit League Freshman of the Year, Sebastian Akins. Calhoun expressed excitement about Walsh’s return, calling him “one of the most respected young basketball minds in the business.”

In his prior role at Utah State, Walsh saw the Aggies to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, showing his knack for player development. His career also includes significant experience at Loyola Marymount, where he helped the team achieve notable improvements.

Both coaches bring a wealth of experience and a proven track record to enhance the Aggies’ program as they look to build on recent successes. As the new season approaches, Utah State basketball looks to these strategic hires to elevate their competitive edge.
