Utah Construction Worker Nate Peterson Injured in Bear Attack in Bryce Woodlands

Construction Worker Survives Unthinkable Bear Attack in Utah

Bryce Woodlands, UT – A construction worker narrowly escaped a terrifying encounter with a 300-pound black bear while on the job at a local campsite. Nate Peterson, 43, was working alongside a crew when the bear attacked, pinning him to his cot. "Crazy bear. I was just sitting there minding my own business," Peterson recalled from his hospital bed at Sevier Valley Hospital. The bear ambushed him, biting his arm before he was able to fight back and throw items at the aggressor.

Despite having previously encountered docile black bears, this aggressive encounter left Peterson shaken. "It’s a whole other experience," he remarked, comparing the attack to dog bites and horse accidents. Following the harrowing incident, Peterson phoned his wife Anna, who initially thought it was a joke until she rushed to the hospital.

Wildlife officials tracked down the bear and euthanized it on Wednesday for safety reasons. Peterson’s survival speaks to the importance of resilience in the face of danger, as he advised others: "Don’t give up. Just fight." His story serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters.
