Press Release: Fast-Moving Forsyth Fire Prompts Evacuations in Pine Valley, Utah
PINE VALLEY, Utah — A rapidly spreading fire, dubbed the Forsyth Fire, has devastated over a dozen structures, including homes, in rural southwest Utah, prompting emergency evacuations. The blaze, which ignited Thursday in the Pine Valley Mountains, has scorched approximately 2.3 square miles and threatens around 400 additional structures, according to Karl Hunt, spokesperson for the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands.
As of Friday evening, despite the efforts of 150 firefighting personnel, including specialized hotshot crews from Utah and Nevada, the fire remains uncontained. Firefighters are employing helicopters and over a dozen engines to combat the flames fueled by gusty winds, low humidity, and high temperatures. The area’s red flag warning was issued following a drought declaration by Utah’s governor.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with authorities urging the public to steer clear of the affected area. "Let the firefighters do what they do best," Hunt advised. Utah Governor Spencer Cox emphasized the need for immediate evacuation and cooperation from residents to ensure safety. No injuries or fatalities have been reported at this time.
