Power Shutoffs Incoming for Central and Southern Utah Residents Due to Wildfires

Press Release: Wildfires Prompt Power Shutoffs in Southern Utah

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Rocky Mountain Power has announced imminent Public Safety Power Shutoffs for residents in central and southern Utah due to ongoing wildfires, particularly the France Canyon and Forsyth fires. These fires have resulted in the destruction of 12 homes and pose a threat to approximately 400 additional structures. As extreme fire conditions and heavy winds are expected to persist, the company anticipates the shutoffs will take place through noon on Sunday.

In preparation, over 4,700 customers have been notified about the potential outages, with an additional 1,600 individuals in a “watch” area set to receive alerts if conditions worsen. "Protecting the safety of our customers and the communities we serve remains our number one priority," stated Pete Singh, a spokesperson for Rocky Mountain Power.

A resource center has been established at The Heritage Center in Cedar City for affected residents to charge devices and access essential services. Power will only be restored after thorough inspections of the infrastructure are completed and any necessary repairs are made. Residents are urged to stay vigilant as the situation develops.
