Arturo Gamboa Freed from Jail Following Arrest During Protest March

Press Article

SALT LAKE CITY — Arturo Gamboa, the man arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at a protest march on Saturday, was released from jail on Friday after a review of preliminary evidence by the state. His release comes with conditions, including residing with his father, surrendering any firearms, and giving his passport to his attorney.

Gamboa was warmly welcomed by his mother upon his release, although he refrained from making a statement. His friend, Carl Moore, expressed relief and happiness for Gamboa, stating, “There was no anger involved. He is extremely happy that he’s out.” Moore believes that the evidence will ultimately vindicate his friend, emphasizing Gamboa’s commitment to justice and peaceful protests since 2020.

The Salt Lake County District Attorney, Sim Gill, had initially sought a three-day extension to evaluate the case, which would have kept Gamboa detained through the weekend. However, it was determined that an informed decision could not be made by the extended deadline. Moving forward, the investigation continues as the Homicide Squad presents its findings.
