KXLF Tower Undergoes Significant Technology Enhancement

Butte Crews Upgrade KXLF Transmitter for Enhanced TV Viewing Experience

Butte, MT — High above the Mining City, a major upgrade is underway at KXLF, promising to enhance the viewing experience for local audiences. Crews are busy installing a substantial 70-foot-long, 1,600-pound transmitter atop one of the East Ridge towers. This effort is part of a multimillion-dollar project by Scripps, the parent company of KXLF and other MTN News stations.

“It’s going to be great to get some new stuff for viewers; they will love to see us better as we move into the future of TV,” said Tiffanie Wood, KXLF Broadcasting Engineer. The upgrade involves transitioning from VHF (very high frequency) to UHF (ultra-high frequency), which will improve over-the-air reception thanks to UHF’s superior ability to penetrate structures.

Mark Huller, another member of the engineering team, emphasized that this upgrade is crucial for the future of TV broadcasting in Montana. “People are cutting the cable and moving toward antennas for free television; this will make that a better product for them,” he said.

Viewers may experience brief outages as part of the installation process, but the new transmitter is expected to expand access to over-the-air signals for thousands. Residents are advised to rescan their TVs if they lose the KXLF signal during the transition.

For troubleshooting assistance, viewers can call 406-922-2499 and check KXLF’s website and social media for updates. Importantly, cable and satellite customers will not be affected by these changes. With this initiative, KXLF is setting itself up for a brighter broadcasting future in Montana.
