Tragic Shooting at Salt Lake City Protest: Veteran’s Intentions Under Investigation
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A tragic incident unfolded during a "No Kings" rally in Salt Lake City, resulting in the death of 39-year-old fashion designer Arthur Folasa Ah Loo. The shooting occurred when an unidentified military veteran, acting as a "safety volunteer," fired three rounds at Arturo Gamboa, 24, who allegedly brandished a rifle at the crowd. Gamboa did not discharge the weapon but has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Witnesses stated that the safety volunteer and another individual confronted Gamboa after he emerged from behind a wall with a rifle, ordering him to drop the weapon. Gamboa reportedly moved toward the crowd in a threatening manner, prompting the veteran to shoot. Ah Loo was struck during the exchange and later succumbed to his injuries.
While Utah is an open-carry state, ambiguity exists regarding the safety volunteer’s actions and the nature of his role. The protest was otherwise peaceful, attended by around 10,000 people, and raised questions about the presence and training of armed security personnel at demonstrations. Ah Loo, known for his community contributions and fashion design, leaves behind a wife and two children.
