Utah State’s Shelby Jensen Earns Student-Athlete of the Week Honors
LOGAN, Utah – Shelby Jensen, a sophomore track and field athlete at Utah State University, has been recognized as the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance at the 2025 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Jensen achieved first-team All-American status after finishing seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in Eugene, Oregon, with a record-breaking time of 9:36.61. This accomplishment not only shattered her previous school record but also met the qualifying standard for the upcoming 2025 USATF Outdoor Championships.
Jensen’s remarkable finish is notable as it marks the best-ever placement for a Utah State athlete in the steeplechase, and she becomes the university’s first women’s All-American in this event since 2018. Her seventh-place finish added crucial team points, helping the Aggies secure their best overall performance at the Outdoor Championships since the year 2000.
Earlier in the competition, Jensen advanced to the final after finishing fifth in her semifinal heat with a time of 9:38.01, which was a record at that point.
In other USU athletic news, junior Logan Hammer from the men’s track and field team also made headlines by earning second-team All-American honors in pole vaulting, finishing tied for 13th place with a clearance of 5.33 meters.
