Family Seeks Support to Honor 8-Month-Old Son Killed in WestFest Shooting
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — The family of Anderson Garcia Cabrera Jr., an 8-month-old boy tragically killed by a stray bullet during a shooting at WestFest, is hoping to lay him to rest in Guatemala. The infant was one of three victims shot during the carnival’s final night; police report the young boy and a 41-year-old bystander were uninvolved, while an 18-year-old was the intended target.
The baby’s father, Anderson Garcia, reflected on the heartbreaking turn of events, stating that a planned joyful outing turned into a nightmare. "I never thought I’d be going to the fair for this reason,” he expressed. In a heartfelt GoFundMe campaign, the family shared their devastation and struggle to process their loss, emphasizing the joy little Anderson brought to their lives.
The family aims to return the baby’s body to Guatemala for burial, seeking donations to cover transportation and funeral costs. "Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us give him the proper burial he deserves," the campaign notes, expressing gratitude for the support during this unimaginable time.
