Title: University of Utah Embraces New Era in Intercollegiate Athletics
Salt Lake City, UT – The University of Utah is poised for a transformative phase in intercollegiate athletics following the settlement in the House vs. NCAA case. This landmark decision allows the university to enhance scholarship offerings and engage in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) agreements with student-athletes, expanding their earning potential and enhancing their college experience.
Mark Harlan, Athletic Director, expressed pride in the efforts of the Utah Athletics staff, who have restructured their operations to focus on empowering student-athletes as brand ambassadors. Since the introduction of the Elevate U program in June 2021, which was designed to maximize NIL opportunities, athletes have collectively earned over $10 million while contributing nearly 7,500 volunteer hours to 14 charitable organizations in the Salt Lake area.
Looking forward, Utah aims to invest approximately $20.5 million in revenue share by 2025-26, while planning to allocate additional scholarships worth $1.15 million. The initiative will also see the implementation of institutional NIL contracts with student-athletes and expanded endorsement deals with businesses.
A newly formed Brand Strategy and Governance team within the Elevate U program will provide more comprehensive support to student-athletes as they navigate their brand-building journeys. This support, alongside continued investment in student-athlete resources, reflects the university’s commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
Harlan emphasized the importance of community support, encouraging donations to the Crimson Club to further boost resources for student-athletes. “Together, we can cultivate an environment of success and opportunity,” he stated, as the university aims for even greater accomplishments in academics and athletics.
