Utah Royals FC Fall Short Against Gotham FC in 3-0 Defeat

Sandy, Utah (June 13, 2025) – Utah Royals FC struggled to gain ground in the NWSL standings after suffering a decisive 3-0 home loss to Gotham FC. With the defeat, Utah remains at the bottom of the league table, now holding just 5 points from 12 matches.

The match began on a challenging note for the Royals as Gotham’s Esther González scored in the 9th minute, forcing Utah to trail early. Despite a spirited performance and several scoring opportunities, Utah found themselves 2-0 down at halftime after Jaelin Howell’s late first-half goal.

In the second half, Utah brought in captain Paige Monaghan to bolster their offense. However, a penalty goal from González in the 58th minute extended Gotham’s lead to 3-0.

Utah did see a shift in momentum when Gotham’s Jess Carter received a red card in the 76th minute, yet they failed to capitalize on being a player up. In a frustrating finish, they could not convert any chances, ending the match without a score.

Looking ahead, Utah Royals FC will host Seattle Reign FC on June 21, in a match celebrating Juneteenth. Tickets are available online.
