Planned Protests Against Trump Set to Mobilize Across Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A series of protests against President Trump are set to unfold this Saturday, with 11 cities across Utah participating in the nationwide "No Kings" demonstrations. The largest gathering is expected to take place in downtown Salt Lake City, reminiscent of the 2020 protests sparked by George Floyd’s death.

Rae Duckworth, Operating Chairperson of BLM Utah Chapter and a veteran of past protests, emphasized the importance of ensuring these events remain peaceful to effectively convey their message. "Make sure you know who’s hosting the protests. We don’t want the message to get lost," Duckworth advised.

While recent protests have faced minor disturbances, Salt Lake Police described the largely peaceful crowd of about 1,000 at Thursday’s gathering, despite some skirmishes and property damage, including a damaged vehicle. Brent Weisberg with SLCPD noted that a few agitators attempted to incite unrest.

Duckworth highlighted the need for peaceful protesting to avoid overshadowing the intended message. She also encouraged protesters to consult the ACLU regarding their rights during demonstrations. As Utah joins the nation in voicing its stance, the emphasis remains on maintaining order and clarity in their protest efforts.
