Brandon Matich Steps Down as East High Football Head Coach After 15 Seasons
SALT LAKE CITY – In a heartfelt announcement on June 12, longtime East High football head coach Brandon Matich confirmed his decision to step down after 15 seasons with the Leopards. Matich, who joined the team in 2010, reflected on the emotional toll and life reassessment that led to this pivotal choice.
“It has been an emotional and painful 48 hours,” Matich shared, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received from the community, friends, and family. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing his health and family, stating, “When what you do starts to affect who you are as a person, a husband, and a father… then life needs to be re-evaluated.”
Matich leaves a significant legacy at East High, boasting an impressive coaching record of 138 wins and 60 losses, and a total of 164 wins and 71 losses over his 19-year coaching career, including four successful seasons at Park City High School from 2006 to 2010. He took the time to express his appreciation for the administration—Dr. Paul Sagers, Greg Maughn, and Ryan Oaks—as well as the dedicated East Bench community.
With heartfelt gratitude, he addressed his players, saying, “You are the reason I have stayed so long… You are East High School forever!” He ended his statement with a rallying cry: “E’s UP, Respect the E! King of The Hill! And FOREVER EPTF!”
As the East High community prepares for the upcoming season, Matich leaves behind a legacy built on dedication and passion for youth athletics.
