Wildfire Breaks Out in Dixie National Forest

DIXIE NATIONAL FOREST, Utah (KUTV) — A wildfire known as the France Canyon Fire has ignited in the Dixie National Forest, approximately 6.5 miles southeast of Hatch, Utah. Discovered around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, the fire has burned an estimated 10 acres within the remote and inaccessible Powell Ranger District.

The U.S. Forest Service reports that the fire was likely started by lightning. Due to its location in a rugged area, direct firefighting efforts have been largely hindered. However, helicopter crews are actively deploying water on the flames while ground teams continue to monitor the situation.

Fortunately, officials have confirmed that there are currently no structures or private properties at risk from the fire. As conditions evolve, fire management teams are maintaining vigilance to ensure safety in the surrounding areas. Updates will continue to be provided as the situation develops.

For more information on wildfires and safety measures, residents are encouraged to stay connected with local news sources and the U.S. Forest Service.
