Utah Valley Earth Forum Unveils 2025 Environmental Survey Results | News, Sports, Jobs

Provo, Lehi, Orem, and Lindon Recognized for Environmental Leadership

PROVO, UT—The Utah Valley Earth Forum has awarded Provo, Orem, Lehi, and Lindon the prestigious “Environmental Stewardship Award” for their exemplary initiatives aimed at promoting human and environmental health. The accolade highlights the cities’ commitment to sustainability, supported by responses to an annual survey measuring various environmental efforts across Utah County.

Lehi emerged as a leader with 19 activities reported, followed by Provo (18), Lindon (15), and Orem (12). Each city has implemented a citywide sustainability policy and appointed an environmental advocate, reflecting their dedication to ecological stewardship.

Despite the success of these four cities, the 2025 survey faced an unusual lack of participation from other local governments, leading Forum Chair Jim Westwater to speculate on possible reasons, including a potential decline in environmental concern following changes in federal policies. The absence of responses from cities like Eagle Mountain, Santaquin, and Vineyard raises questions about their commitment to sustainability.

Since the survey’s inception in 2012, environmental efforts in Utah County have significantly increased, with eight cities now adopting sustainability policies compared to just three in the initial survey. Westwater hopes the survey will inspire continued improvement and awareness in environmental practices throughout the valley.
