Local Teen Saves 9-Year-Old During House Fire in Murray, Utah
MURRAY, Utah — A quick-thinking teenager, Kylee Castro, became a hero on Thursday morning when she rescued 9-year-old Leonidas Vigliotta from a house fire in their neighborhood. Castro was alerted by a smoke alarm and rushed to investigate, only to find heavy smoke pouring from the home.
Upon noticing the flames, she immediately called 911 and spotted Leonidas attempting to return into the burning house. “I just ran over and grabbed him and have kept him with me since,” Castro said, highlighting the bond formed in the midst of the emergency.
According to the Murray City Fire Department, the blaze originated from a trailer parked beside the house, quickly advancing into the garage and the home itself. Assistant Fire Chief Stephen Olson emphasized the importance of vigilance in such situations, urging residents to report smoke or fire immediately: “It can spread fast; it’s doubling in size just by the second.”
Leonidas expressed immense gratitude for Castro’s courageous act, stating he was “really, really thankful.” Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the fire and remind residents to ensure their smoke detectors are fully operational, particularly during the warmer months.
