Utah Secures 2026 Commitment from QB Michael Johnson

Salt Lake City, UT – Utah football has bolstered its future roster with the commitment of quarterback Michael Johnson from Hampton, Georgia. Johnson made his announcement via social media on Tuesday, marking a significant addition to the Utes’ 2026 recruiting class.

Standing at 5-foot-11.5 and weighing 165 pounds, Johnson plays for Dutchtown High School and is recognized as a three-star prospect on the 247 Sports composite rankings, where he holds a rating of 0.8689. Previously committed to Mississippi State, Johnson is currently ranked as the 49th quarterback nationally and the 850th overall prospect for the 2026 class.

During his recruitment process, Johnson attracted interest from several prominent programs, including Mississippi State, Purdue, UCF, Cincinnati, and West Virginia. His commitment to Utah follows an official visit to the campus on June 6, which appears to have solidified his decision.

A dual-threat quarterback, Johnson demonstrated his versatility on the field in his junior season, amassing 2,700 passing yards and 24 touchdowns while also rushing for 618 yards and 10 additional scores. His impressive performance earned him the title of Georgia Region 3 AAAAA Offensive Player of the Year.

Johnson’s commitment adds to Utah’s growing 2026 class, which so far includes three-star edge rusher Preston Pitts, linebacker LaGary Mitchell Jr., and cornerback Major Hinchen. As the first offensive recruit, Johnson’s addition signals the Utes’ commitment to strengthening their offensive lineup in the upcoming seasons under head coach Kyle Whittingham.

With his multifaceted athletic skills and proven track record, Johnson is poised to contribute significantly to Utah football’s legacy in the coming years.
