Press Release: Major Data Center Development Proposed for Millard County
MILLARD COUNTY, UT – Fibernet MercuryDelta, LLC is seeking to transform a significant tract of land in Millard County into a sprawling data center campus. The company has submitted a request to rezone 1,143.8 acres near 4500 E and HWY 50 in Delta from Agriculture 20 (Ag-20) to Heavy Industrial (HI) to facilitate this development. The Millard County commission has endorsed the rezoning, following recommendations from the planning commission earlier this year.
Founded in 1994, Fibernet specializes in fiber and colocation services, operating significant facilities in Salt Lake City and Santa Clara, California. Prior attempts to secure a coal plant aimed at creating a data center underscore their commitment to expanding operations. The proposed campus could leverage power from the nearby Intermountain Power Plant (IPP), with initial plans indicating a scope of 2GW capacity and potential expansion up to 10GW, bolstered by extensive battery storage options.
While discussions around the future of the existing coal plant, which is due for replacement in 2025, continue—local officials are contemplating longer operational timelines and potential nuclear developments—the data center proposal marks a significant shift in Millard County’s industrial landscape.
