NuCube Energy Partners with Utah San Rafael Energy Lab for Innovative Microreactor Testing
Orangeville, UT — Thursday, June 12, 2025 — NuCube Energy, a pioneering microreactor developer based in Idaho Falls, has formalized a memorandum of understanding with the Utah San Rafael Energy Lab (USREL) to collaborate on the siting of a test reactor in Orangeville, Utah. This partnership aims to promote community engagement while advancing state-of-the-art nuclear technology.
NuCube’s innovative reactor design employs tri-structural isotropic fuel and heat pipe technology, significantly enhancing safety and reliability by reducing moving parts. The microreactors, capable of generating electricity via high-temperature heat exceeding 1000 degrees Celsius, are positioned to compete with natural gas for high-temperature industrial customers. "Our technology can transform energy delivery, particularly for rural areas," said Cristian Rabiti, NuCube Energy co-founder and CEO.
The collaboration aligns with Utah’s ambition to leverage nuclear energy for sustainable development and emphasizes the state’s commitment to clean energy. In tandem with ongoing projects at USREL, including potential test reactors from other partners, these initiatives promise to innovate Utah’s energy landscape and accelerate the transition to reliable, sustainable power.
