LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ava Smith, a promising shooting guard and transfer from Utah State University, has joined the Bellarmine University women’s basketball team. The rising sophomore played 17 games during her freshman year, where she demonstrated her skills with an average of nearly nine minutes on the court.

Bellarmine head coach Monique Reid expressed enthusiasm for Smith’s addition, describing her as a "highly skilled, knockdown shooter" who excels in multiple positions. "We’re super excited to have her here," Reid stated, highlighting Smith’s athleticism and basketball IQ.

In her debut season at Utah State, Smith showcased her talent by scoring a season-high nine points against San Diego State, along with achieving a personal best of three assists in her first start against New Mexico. Smith, a native of Camas, Washington, excelled throughout her high school career at Union High School, where she earned accolades as a McDonald’s All-American nominee and joined the 1,000-point club.

Smith stated she chose Bellarmine for its strong academics and the inspiring leadership of Coach Reid, emphasizing a shared commitment to player development both on and off the court.
