Gas Leak Evacuates Park City Businesses, No Injuries Reported
PARK CITY, Utah — A gas leak detected on Main Street led to the evacuation of numerous businesses and residents on Tuesday afternoon. The Park City Fire District reported that a private contractor accidentally struck a main gas line near 402 Main Street while working on a project. Police and fire departments were quickly alerted, resulting in the evacuation of residents and approximately 80 businesses in the area south of Heber Avenue.
"Our primary concern is the safety of residents and business owners," stated Lt. Danielle Snelson of the Park City Police Department. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and by 4 p.m., officials deemed the area secure, allowing business owners and employees to return.
One establishment affected was the Red Banjo, where staff had to evacuate mid-shift. Luke Price, a server, described the moment as tense, noting the rush to leave dishes uncleaned and meals unpaid. While some restaurants reopened later, they anticipated slower business, with Price calling the situation "the most scary" he had experienced in Park City. Amid concerns, local business owners expressed gratitude for the absence of serious incidents and hope for a return to normalcy.
