NWS Issues Warning for ‘Marginal’ Risk of Storms in Northern Utah

Severe Weather Alert Issued for Northern Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a warning for potential storms across northern Utah and parts of southwestern Wyoming on Tuesday, June 10. The NWS categorized the risk level as "marginal," indicating that while the threat is relatively low, storms can still be hazardous.

Residents are advised to stay indoors if storms are approaching, as severe weather may bring strong winds, hail, and lightning. The NWS recommends monitoring signs such as darkening skies, rising winds, and temperature drops to anticipate storm arrival. Shelters should be robust; tents and open structures do not provide adequate protection from lightning.

If caught outside during a storm, it’s crucial to avoid elevated areas, trees, and water bodies. Staying separated from metal objects can also lower the risk of lightning strikes. For those in vehicles, pulling over in a safe area is suggested, along with protective measures against potential hail damage.

As storms roll in, Utahns should prioritize safety for themselves and their pets, remaining sheltered for at least 30 minutes after the storm to ensure it has passed.
