Tragic Loss of Kaysville Police Officer Jared Jensen Following Cancer Battle
KAYSVILLE, Utah (KUTV) — The Kaysville Police Department mourns the loss of Sgt. Jared Jensen, who passed away after a courageous battle with stage 4 brain cancer. Jensen, known for his unwavering dedication, integrity, and honor, served the community with distinction.
In a heartfelt social media post, department officials emphasized the lasting impact Jensen had on his colleagues and the community. His fight with illness followed a harrowing incident in December 2012 when, as an officer with the Sunset Police Department, he survived an ambush by 31-year-old Zane Openshaw, who fired multiple shots at him after a domestic dispute. Despite the life-threatening ordeal, Jensen was determined to make a difference, advocating for reforms in Utah’s Adult Probation and Parole system.
Diagnosed with brain cancer in September 2024, Jensen expressed a profound resilience, reflecting on his earlier brush with death, and fought tirelessly. He later transitioned to the Kaysville Police Department and contributed to the US Marshals Violent Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team. Jensen’s legacy of bravery and commitment to public service will not be forgotten.
