Utah Football Impresses 3-Star Recruit During ‘Incredible’ Visit

Utah Football Program Making Strides in Recruitment As Visit Season Heats Up

As the official visit season unfolds, the Utah football program is making significant headway with top high school prospects for the 2026 and 2027 classes. With many recruits visiting Salt Lake City, excitement is building ahead of the summer recruiting period.

One standout visitor, three-star quarterback Michael Johnson from Hampton, Georgia, has recently been on campus. Following his official visit, Johnson expressed enthusiasm about his experience on social media, stating, "Official visit with [Utah] was nothing short of amazing. Thank you to the coaches and staff for making me feel at home."

Johnson, who previously committed to Mississippi State before reopening his recruitment, had a remarkable junior season at Dutchtown High School. He recorded 2,700 passing yards and over 500 rushing yards, earning the title of Region 3 5A Offensive Player of the Year. In addition to football, the 6-foot-1 dual-threat athlete participates in track and field and is a pitcher on the baseball team.

The Utes’ 2026 class welcomes other recruits, including three-star edge rusher Preston Pitts from Clear Falls High School in Texas and linebacker LaGary Mitchell Jr. from Meridian High School in Idaho. Despite currently holding the No. 89 ranking nationally and last in the Big 12, these rankings are likely to shift as additional recruits schedule their visits.

With more future recruiting weekends planned through June, Coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff remain optimistic. The Utes aim to enhance their class rankings and secure talented players as they prepare for the upcoming season. As Utah continues to strengthen its position in the competitive recruiting landscape, it is poised for an exciting future.
