In response to President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles, a wave of outrage among artists and celebrities has emerged, coinciding with ongoing protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation raids.
Trump’s recent order sent an additional 2,100 National Guard members and 700 Marines to the area, forming what authorities have labeled Task Force 51 for "continuous coverage" amidst escalating unrest. Many notable figures have voiced their dissent on social media, decrying both the National Guard’s presence and ICE’s actions.
Actress Eva Longoria expressed her discontent on Instagram, calling the deployment “Un-American.” Actor Mark Ruffalo shared a poignant message, criticizing the targeting of working-class individuals while wealthy elites continue to prosper. His post resonated widely, garnering over 200,000 likes and support from fellow celebrities, including Jennifer Garner and Halle Berry.
Musicians have also joined the chorus. Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong posted a provocative image related to the protests, while Tyler, the Creator boldly declared, “FUCK ICE.” Singer Reneé Rapp condemned the administration’s policies, labeling the situation a disgrace.
Finneas, brother to Billie Eilish, took part in the demonstrations and reported being teargassed, further underscoring the tensions on the ground. He also shared footage of a journalist shot with a rubber bullet during coverage of the protests.
The unfolding crisis has ignited political backlash as well. California Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans to sue the federal government, condemning the deployment as unconstitutional. “This is exactly what Donald Trump wanted,” he stated, warning that the presidential order could empower similar interventions across the nation.
The situation remains fluid as protesters and celebrities advocate for change amidst a polarized political landscape.
