Active Bomb Threat Disrupts Provo Government Buildings
Provo, Utah — An alarming bomb threat prompted the evacuation of several government buildings in Provo on Tuesday morning. The incident began just after 10 a.m. when an employee at the Utah County Government complex received a chilling call from an individual claiming there was a bomb in the parking structure. The caller stated that the device would detonate 34 minutes after the call and threatened that if it did not, armed violence would ensue against government personnel.
Provo Police quickly assessed the situation and deemed the threat credible, leading to the evacuation of approximately 200 employees. Key facilities such as the office building at 100 E. Center Street and the courthouse were shut down. Additional threats targeting the Provo Library and a local credit union also surfaced, with police suspecting all calls originated from the same individual.
“We’ve been trying to track the numbers and follow up on any leads given to us,” stated Provo Police Lt. Chet Whatcott. However, efforts to trace the calls have been complicated by the use of spoofed numbers.
Law enforcement responded swiftly, deploying bomb-sniffing dogs to sweep the buildings. Fortunately, no explosives were found, confirming the initial fears were unfounded. Following the threat, the Utah County Administration Building, Historic Courthouse, and Health and Justice Building remained closed for the rest of the day as a precautionary measure.
In West Valley City, additional threats were reported at two local businesses—a bank and a Dollar Store—claiming vehicles in their parking lots contained bombs. However, investigations by the police found these claims to be baseless.
Authorities continue to investigate the threats and are urging the public to remain vigilant.
