Utah Football Named Finalist for 4-Star Recruit

Collins Names Utah Among Finalists Following Productive Visit

MANSFIELD, TX – Four-star safety recruit Chance Collins of Mansfield High School has officially included the University of Utah in his list of four finalists for college football recruitment. Following a significant visit to Salt Lake City with head coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff, Collins made the announcement on X Sunday night, listing West Virginia, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M alongside the Utes. He plans to reveal his decision on Wednesday during a livestream on Instagram.

Ranked as the 34th safety prospect in the 2026 class by 247Sports Composite, Collins has received a notable 18 offers during his recruitment journey, including an earlier visit to Oklahoma State. His impressive athleticism was on display throughout the past season, where he showcased his ability to read quarterbacks and excel in the running game. Additionally, he contributed as a wide receiver, recording 16 catches for 310 yards and two touchdowns, while also racking up six interceptions and eight pass break-ups in the secondary.

Collins’ ties to Utah deepen with two of his high school teammates, safety Nate Tilmon and defensive tackle Dilan Battle, already having committed to the program. The timing of his recruitment aligns neatly with the potential departure of Utah starting safeties Tao Johnson and Rabbit Evans after the 2025-26 season, which could create an opportunity for Collins to step into a prominent role.

Currently, Utah’s 2026 recruiting class includes commitments from three-star linebacker LaGary Mitchell Jr. and edge rusher Preston Pitts, while recent developments saw 6-foot-5 tight end Colby Simpson reopen his recruitment. As the decision day approaches, Collins remains a highly sought-after prospect in this competitive recruiting cycle.
