Hiker Rescued Near Salt Lake City After Ankle Injury

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 8, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A hiker sustained a severe ankle injury on a trail in Salt Lake City’s upper Avenues and was successfully rescued by local emergency services. The Salt Lake City Fire Department (SLCFD) received the distress call around 10:45 a.m., prompting a swift response.

SLCFD Captain Brandt Hancuff stated, “We had an individual who fell and injured their ankle, requiring assistance to get down.” Given the hiker’s location, a helicopter from the Utah Department of Public Safety was deployed for the rescue operation.

The entire process lasted about one hour, with the hiker being safely transported to a landing area before being flown down. After signing a release for medical assistance, the individual opted to drive themselves to a doctor for further treatment.

With the arrival of pleasant spring weather, emergency services have noted a rise in incidents involving hikers needing help. “We’ve had a number of these in the past week,” Hancuff remarked, highlighting the importance of safety in the outdoors.
