Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games Launches Exciting New Pickleball Tournament

CEDAR CITY, Utah (June 3, 2025) – The Larry H. Miller Utah Summer Games kicked off its busiest week with the opening day of the 2025 pickleball tournament on June 3, hosting over 180 athletes vying for gold medals across multiple divisions.

Among the familiar brackets, a new addition, Skinny Singles, has generated buzz among competitors seeking a fresh challenge. In this unique format, players occupy only half of the court, with their side determined by whether their scores are even or odd.

Participant Stacy Wright, who embraced the new format, noted, “It’s not as hard on your body since you don’t need to move as much, but accuracy is crucial. If you want a better workout, play regular singles. For skill enhancement, choose Skinny Singles.”

Though many competitors are new to this style of play, excitement is palpable. Pickleball Sport Coordinator Karen Marchant shared, “I had a lot of interest in Skinny Singles, so we made it an option. It’s easier to cover the court, especially for older players, but younger participants are also enjoying this fun twist on the game.”

The 2025 schedule also brings an opportunity for pickleball players to engage in the sister sport of racquetball, set for June 13-14. Athletes and teams interested in registering for this and other sports can do so at utahsummergames.org.

As the tournament continues, the innovative Skinny Singles format promises to attract more attention, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of this year’s games.
