Utah County Gears Up for November Elections: Over 140 Candidates Filed Amid School District Changes

As the filing deadline for candidates in Utah County’s municipal and local school board elections approaches, interest is surging. With over 140 individuals already declaring their candidacy, nearly half are seeking positions on newly formed school boards after last November’s vote to split the Alpine School District into three districts: Aspen Peaks, Lake Mountain, and Timpanogos.

Each of these districts will offer seven school board seats, with 59 candidates competing for a total of 21 positions. Utah County Commissioner Skyler Beltran highlighted the strong community engagement reflected in this candidate pool, noting it will lead to improved discussions and outcomes for local education.

Excitement is also brewing around mayoral races, particularly in Eagle Mountain, where incumbent Mayor Tom Westmoreland seeks reelection against several challengers, and in Lehi, where the current mayor’s intentions remain unclear. Pleasant Grove will see a change, as Mayor Guy Fugal has opted not to run again.

Potential candidates have until Friday to file, with the county elections division poised to determine primary and general election contests. Beltran encourages community members to consider running for office to make a meaningful impact. Further details can be found on the Utah County Government’s website.
