Utah Valley University to Join The Big West Conference in 2026
OREM, UT — Utah Valley University (UVU) announced Wednesday that it will transition to The Big West Conference starting July 1, 2026, marking a significant milestone in its athletic program. This move aligns UVU with a prominent mid-major conference and promises enhanced stability and opportunities for its student-athletes.
UVU President Dr. Astrid S. Tuminez expressed pride in the university’s progress, emphasizing the exciting future ahead in The Big West. "This move reflects our growth and reaffirms our commitment to competitive excellence," she stated.
The university will compete in 13 Big West-sponsored sports, including basketball, soccer, golf, and volleyball. UVU will also maintain its wrestling program in the Big 12 Conference. UVU Director of Athletics Dr. Jared Sumsion highlighted this transition as a culmination of the university’s athletic success and potential.
Joining The Big West will increase UVU’s exposure in a competitive landscape, becoming the largest university in the conference with over 46,800 students. This move is poised to foster fresh rivalries, elevate UVU’s brand, and continue its history of success, which includes 33 championships in the Western Athletic Conference since its 2013 membership.
