Utah Family’s Italian Dream Turns into a Tale of Resilience
SALT LAKE CITY — What began as a family vacation on Italy’s picturesque Amalfi Coast transformed into a harrowing ordeal for the Preston family from Utah. Miranda and Isaac Preston, alongside their toddlers and Miranda’s parents, traveled to Italy to celebrate Isaac’s graduation from medical school.
Tragedy struck when Miranda and her father, attempting to recreate a cherished memory from 20 years prior, crashed while riding a Vespa. Miranda sustained serious injuries, including a broken spine, fractured ribs, a brain bleed, and liver lacerations, leaving the family in a predicament in an unfamiliar land.
Support arrived when senior missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, fluent in Italian, visited Miranda in the hospital. Isaac described the distressing nights apart but emphasized the miracles that followed. After four days in the hospital, Miranda was moved to an Airbnb as arrangements were made for her return home.
Now back in Texas, the couple is filled with gratitude for the outpouring of help from friends and strangers. "God is good," Miranda said, reflecting on the kindness they received. As Isaac embarks on his medical residency, they are determined to embrace their new chapter, inspired by their resilience and community support.
