Utah State Women’s Basketball Signs Standout Guard Marina Asensio
LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head women’s basketball coach Wesley Brooks officially announced the signing of Marina Asensio, a skilled combo guard, on Monday. Brooks emphasized Asensio’s leadership experience and her reputation as one of the nation’s most efficient three-point shooters.
Asensio joins the Aggies after a standout season at Western Michigan, where she started all 30 games and earned all-MAC honorable mention honors. She led the Broncos in scoring with an average of 13.6 points per game and ranked fifth in her conference with 4.9 assists. Additionally, she contributed 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. Notable performances include a career-high 26 points against Akron and eight assists against both Ohio and Kent State.
Prior to her tenure at Western Michigan, Asensio played two seasons at South Florida, appearing in 60 games and reaching the NCAA Tournament during her sophomore year. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated consistent shooting, averaging 38.1% from the field and 34.2% from beyond the arc on three attempts per game.
A native of Sabadell, Spain, Asensio brings a wealth of international experience, having competed for the U20 Spain Women’s National Team at the European Championship, where she shined with strong performances, including 15 points against Lithuania.
Her club-level experience at Segle XXI in Spain further solidifies her credentials, where she averaged 10.8 points and showcased her scoring ability with multiple double-digit outings.
