Press Release: Measles Case Linked to Salt Lake City International Airport Travel
SALT LAKE CITY — A passenger who traveled through Salt Lake City International Airport multiple times before the Memorial Day weekend has been identified with an active case of measles. According to reports from the Park Record, the individual traveled from Canada to Salt Lake City on May 19 before driving to southern Idaho. Four days later, they returned to the airport to board another flight.
State health officials have confirmed that the passenger did not make any stops in Utah during their travels, leading to a determination of "low-risk" for the local community. Summit County Nursing Director Derek Moss noted that the traveler is on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s "Do Not Board" list, which prohibits them from flying within the U.S.
The individual had received measles vaccinations; however, one of the doses was not the type approved in the United States. Notably, in 2023, the CDC documented over 1,000 measles cases nationwide, with Texas being the most impacted state. Utah’s Department of Health and Human Services is expected to provide further updates shortly regarding this situation.
