Job Corps Closure in Clearfield Leaves Students in Uncertainty

CLEARFIELD, Utah — Following the Department of Labor’s decision to halt operations, the Job Corps campus in Clearfield announced it would close, leaving many students facing an uncertain future. Job Corps safety officer Dave Olson expressed concern for students who may lack support systems, stating, “Some of them don’t have things that they can go back to.”

Seventeen-year-old Rylee Wilhelm shared her personal journey, noting she joined Job Corps to escape a challenging home environment and pursue her dream of becoming a diesel mechanic. “Right now, I’m kinda lost and confused,” she admitted, highlighting the anxiety felt by many students who may end up in unstable situations.

Olson and other staff are urgently working to connect students with local employers and programs, emphasizing that time is of the essence. Drew Moses, another student just months away from completing his automotive program, reflected on the broader implications of the closure, saying, “We’re at the bottom and now it’s time to get after it.”

As the Clearfield campus prepares to close its doors, the future remains precarious for its students, many of whom are now seeking alternative paths to rebuild their lives.
