Integration of Modern Technology in the North-South High-Speed Railway Project

Vietnam’s Ministry of Construction Collaborates with 3M Group for High-Speed Railway Project

Hanoi – On May 28, the Ministry of Construction (MoC) convened a pivotal meeting with the US-based conglomerate 3M Group to explore the North–South High-Speed Railway Project and its associated traffic safety initiatives in Vietnam. This ambitious railway project marks a significant achievement for the country, reflecting its commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure.

Le Trung Thanh, Director of the MoC’s Department of Science Technology, Environment, and Construction Materials, highlighted the project’s unprecedented scale and complexity, stressing the need for advanced technological integration. "Given its investment magnitude, sophisticated technical standards are essential," he said.

3M’s Edric Tan outlined the company’s extensive experience in traffic safety and infrastructure, noting their contributions to urban railway projects in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Drawing insights from their global ventures in countries like China and Thailand, 3M proposed an array of solutions aimed at elevating the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the railway system.

Key proposals included the implementation of intelligent reflective materials for signage, fireproofing, and advanced maintenance technologies designed to minimize vibrations. Moreover, 3M expressed its commitment to knowledge transfer, offering workshops aimed at training local engineers and contractors in modern railway practices.

Aligning with Vietnam’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure, 3M suggested pilot projects employing lightweight, low-emission materials. Both parties recognized the importance of these initiatives for achieving Vietnam’s Net-Zero 2050 goal.

The session concluded with plans for a field survey at 3M’s Science and Technology Centre in Hanoi to further evaluate the proposed solutions, reinforcing the collaborative spirit aimed at fostering sustainable transportation solutions in Vietnam.
