COLLEGE STATION, Texas — In an impressive display of athletic performance, Utah State sophomore Shelby Jensen secured her spot at the 2025 NCAA National Championships during the NCAA West First Rounds held Saturday at E.B. Cushing Stadium. Jensen finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase quarterfinals with a time of 10:00.46, marking a notable achievement as she becomes the first Utah State woman to qualify for nationals in this event since 2019.

Jensen’s impressive final lap time of 1:09.79 was the fastest among all competitors, showcasing her ability to thrive under pressure. “We are super proud of how everyone competed,” said Artie Gulden, USU’s director of track & field. Alongside Jensen, junior Logan Hammer also qualified for the championships in pole vault.

In addition, senior Emma Thornley and junior Sarah Ellis participated in the 5,000 meters, finishing 28th and 46th, respectively. Thornley concluded her distinguished career with multiple all-region honors and significant records for the Aggies. The championships will take place in Eugene, Oregon, from June 11-14, with Jensen and Hammer set to compete on the national stage.
