Utah Utes Pursue Standout Prospects in Upcoming Recruiting Weekend
Kyle Whittingham and the Utah Utes coaching staff are intensifying their recruiting efforts this offseason, focusing on standout high school athletes in the 2026 and 2027 classes. With numerous high-profile recruits planning visits to Salt Lake City this summer, the Utes are poised to solidify their connections with top targets.
Recently, Utah extended an offer to Colorado’s Troy Mailo, a promising athlete who can excel on both sides of the ball at Mullen High School. After an unofficial visit with the Utes, Mailo highlighted his experience with defensive line coaches Lewis Powell and Luther Elliss on social media. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 240 pounds, Mailo is recognized for his versatility, making an impact as a pass rusher or potentially lining up as a tight end. Ranked as a three-star player and the No. 43 edge rusher in the 2027 class by 247Sports, he is also the second-ranked player in Colorado, just behind Valor Christian’s Reis Russell.
Throughout his sophomore season, Mailo showcased his defensive prowess with 52 total tackles—26 solo—and ranked among the top 15 in Colorado’s 5A Division with 7.0 sacks, earning all-state honors. Currently, he holds seven Division-I offers, including Arizona, Colorado State, Kansas, Kansas State, New Mexico State, Utah, and Washington State.
In addition to Mailo, the Utes have secured a commitment from Thaddeus Thatcher, a three-star quarterback from Arbor View High School in Nevada, who is currently ranked as the No. 25 quarterback in the 2027 class. As the recruiting period heats up, the Utes are looking to strengthen their roster with top talent.
