Utah Valley Upsets Oregon in Eugene Regional Showdown

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — In a thrilling matchup, Utah Valley University triumphed over Oregon, securing a 6-5 victory in the Eugene Regional on Friday night. Jimmy De Anda emerged as the star player, driving in three runs with both a double and a single.

The No. 4 seed Utah Valley (33-27) initiated a dramatic four-run third inning, highlighted by De Anda’s run-scoring double down the left-field line. Luke Iverson contributed with an RBI single and Mason Strong followed with a two-run single, propelling Utah Valley to a 4-0 advantage.

Oregon (42-15) responded fiercely in the bottom of the fourth, thanks to Drew Smith’s two-run home run and a solo shot from Anson Aroz, narrowing the gap to 4-3. De Anda’s two-run single in the seventh extended Utah Valley’s lead to 6-3. Smith later hit a solo home run in the eighth, bringing his total to two home runs and three RBIs for the game.

Carston Herman (5-3) earned the win for Utah Valley, while Cooper Littledike tallied his sixth save. Jason Reitz (5-1) suffered the loss. Utah Valley will face second-seeded Arizona in the winner’s bracket on Saturday, while Oregon will play Cal Poly in a must-win situation.
